Our aim is to enable all our children to achieve their potential participating in physical activity. Crowstone offers a wide range of Sports across an extensive programme for pupils from Early Years (Foundation 1/2 ) up to Year 6. Sport promoted as an important part of school life with the emphasis on sport being both an enjoyable and healthy pursuit, aiding their social and emotional development. We promote the importance of fitness for life. We encourage all our pupils at all levels through competitive and co-operative games to be enthusiastic and always give their best, aiming to improve confidence and nurture all abilities, instilling the values of sportsmanship and fair play. Most importantly, we aim to give our pupils a real desire to take part in sport at either a recreational or a competitive level.
Our Foundation (Early Years) classes take part in structured lessons learning through fun activities including Ball Skills, Music and Movement, Gymnastics, Swimming and Athletics.
Years 1/2: (KS1) we concentrate on improving their all round sporting abilities for all levels including Ball Skills with hands, feet and rackets, Gymnastics, Dance , Swimming, Cricket and Athletics.
Years 3-6: (KS2) the children are given excellent opportunities within the programme to participate in sports including Football, Netball, Hockey, Cross-Country, Swimming, Tag Rugby,Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Rounders, Athletics as well as enjoying a Health and Fitness programme where the children learn about their bodies through both practical and theory lessons understanding the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Bikeability Levels 1 and 2 are taught to the children as well as outdoor pursuit activities such as Archery and Wall Climbing in Years 5 and 6.
Our pre and after school activities are popular and it gives the children the chance to enjoy and improve in their chosen sport.
We participate in local, regional and national competitions enjoying many notable successes. The children will also experience competition in our inter-house programme across a number of sports where we make full use of local facilities (such as Garon Park, Westcliff Tennis, Crowstone Christian Centre Sports Hall) as well as our own secure Playing Field.
The children also have the opportunity via class representatives on the schools Sports Council to actively voice their ideas on all aspects of the schools “Sporting Life.”
