We have a written code of practice relating to the education of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Individual progress is monitored carefully throughout the school and every effort is made to ensure the work is within their needs, capabilities and extends them without stress, so that they can enjoy their learning experience. Some children may receive extra help within the classroom from the class teacher, or they may follow individual programmes of work devised by the class teacher and the Special Needs Co-ordinator, in withdrawn, one to one or small group sessions. I am the SENCO who co-ordinates with all class teachers and specialist staff. Crowstone implements the Essex Stages of Assessment Scheme which involves close liaison between home and the school and a regular review of the children's progress. The school actively promotes inclusion and aims to care for the needs of pupils across the learning spectrum.

We welcome regular contact with parents and encourage the children to be a part of their target setting. This gives them ownership of their learning, particularly in Years 5 and 6, helping them to mature and be more responsible for themselves. This enables the students to be more prepared for the move to the secondary education environment.
